BESSARABIA

1941

Welcome to the Rumanian-Russian mini-Group Solitaire ASL campaign.

We recently completed a GSASL campaign of the U.S. Army Rangers which ran from 2000 to 2007 and covered Ranger operations from 1942-1945.  This new campaign which we are about to start is planned to be finished by the end of 2008 and it covers only one week of “real-time” battle.

As Campaign Masters, Hans and I will develop missions for the two opposing Divisions (Rumanian and Russian).  These will be put in form of Mission Orders and passed on to the Battalion Commanders (Btn CO) who will develop Combat Orders for each Company (Coy) of his battalion command.

The Company Commanders (Coy CO) will execute his Coy’s Combat Orders, and report the result back to his Btn CO using our After Action Report (AAR) form.  The Btn CO will compile his AARs and send a final report to the Campaign Masters.  The Campaign Masters will develop the next mission, based on success or failure of each Btn.

This is a short-term GSASL campaign and will cover a battle between the 1st Rumanian Armored Division and Russian 176th Rifle Division supported by tanks.  The battle being simulated is that of the Rumanian unit attacking in July 1941 across the border, crossing the Prut River and then battling for the cities of Branzeni and Edinita in Bessarabia which was Romanian prior to Soviet Union’s annexation in June 1940.
